If you haven’t heard of spirulina, don’t worry, it is just on the upswing. Although it’s too bad that many of us didn’t find out about it sooner! Although, I have a feeling that vegetarians and vegans have known for quite some time, because of its high source of iron. Have you ever heard of a superfood? Well this is one of them. In fact, this might be the super-est food! It literally is the most nutrient dense food on Earth!
Just 1 Tbsp of Spirulina will ack a punch with 4 grams of protein, 11% Recommended Daily Amount (RDA) of Vitamin B1, 15% RDA Vitamin B2, 4% RDA B3, 11% RDA for Iron, 21% RDA for Copper, and more! It is actually made up of 65% protein, 1 tbsp being comparable to 1 egg, which is really great! A few other benefits of the amazing spirulina are – helping with allergies, antioxidants, and balancing blood sugar. One downside though, is the high cost, which may see a decrease in coming years though, with popularity and growing brands.
What is spirulina? Actually, it is an algae that is found in bodies of water, such as non-contaminated ponds, which is where it gets its nickname – Pond Scum. It tastes very “green,” similar to that of wheatgrass, but don’t let that deter you. The taste can easily be masked by mixing it in with other flavorful foods. Look deeper into this superfood, as it may very well be something that can benefit your health and body. Plus, you can find recipes and more to help you find the right amount to add in!
