Prostate Cancer & FIsh Oil…Are They Linked?
Prostate Cancer & Fish Oil
The ever so growing trend of taking fish oil supplements might not be as beneficial as they are leading you to believe. As I always say, “Everything in moderation!” When we find out about the newest trend, just about everyone goes crazy and the consumption rates go up. This is exactly what happened with fish oil. Researchers began talking about all the health benefits and how it was linked to prevent many life-threatening situations, so of course just about everyone ran to their local vitamin shop and bought themselves fish oil supplements. Many of those people did not need to consume more than they were already receiving in their daily diet.
Others were led to believe that it would decrease their risk of Prostate Cancer. When in actuality, it has been seen in recent studies to have increased the likelihood of Prostate Cancer. According to a recent study at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, 43% of men with the highest levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood were the most likely to become diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.
Studies are still being taken to figure out how Fish Oil can be beneficial to some cancers as an anti-inflammatory, but yet increase the likelihood of Prostate Cancer. I will say once again; DO NOT self-medicate. If you feel that you need to consume more Omega-3 Fatty Acids, feel free to reach out. I can always be contacted through my website here OR talk to your physician about it.
