Is It Possible to Take Too Many Supplements?
The basic answer to this is – Absolutely. In fact, it is possible to take too much of anything. Even water. But that is another article, maybe even coming soon. As for supplements, there is a daily dosage for everyone, and one singular supplement shouldn’t be pushed past its limit. Now, on the other hand, there are so many different supplements someone can be taking. For example, vitamins, fish oil, flax oil, protein, creatine, amino acids, caffeine, milk thistle, antioxidants, probiotics, etc. I can go on and on with supplements, but you get the idea. Some people take ALL of these each and every day, so at what point is the cut-off; the line where it is becoming too much for your body.
This is a very difficult question to answer, because many of these supplements are helping your body get the nutrients that it needs. One person’s limit could be another person’s absolute minimum. Getting the right information on specific quantity per supplement and how many different ones to take is very important. It is imperative to seek out a dietitian’s advice for your precise goals, amounts, and which supplements you really should be taking.
This is increasingly important for athletes, body builders, and people with certain diseases in which they are trying to inhibit. Many of these people load their bodies up with so many supplements, it even becomes difficult to keep track. Before delving in and going crazy at your local GNC, be sure to talk to an R.D. and get the info you need. The last thing we want is over supplementing and wasting money on unnecessary ones.
