How to Make Intentions for Our Health

How to Make Intentions for Our Health

Set Daily Intentions

At one point or another in our lives, we have all been in a place where we wanted to make a resolution to better ourselves, and more importantly, our health. Chances are, it came from a holiday, like New Years, where we promise ourselves and our friends that we are going to go to the gym, change our diet, or something along those lines. Well, how many of us actually follow through with it until we meet that resolution. Sadly, not many. And the reason for that is because a resolution is kind of like a short-term goal. Something that we are temporarily setting for ourselves, kind of randomly, with no powerful, real motive behind it. This makes it much more difficult to set a resolution and then follow through with it.

On the other hand, we have something called intentions. As the word kind of describes, we want it. Whatever it is, we intend to have it. They aren’t just short-term resolutions that come about because of a holiday, they are because we decide that we want it, and that is what gives us the motivation and drive to achieve it. As for our health, we should all have intentions on consistently making it better. We can use short-term or long-term intentions, as long as you can keep your mind to it and better yourself within that timeframe.

It’s Easier Than You Think…

Setting intentions is actually quite easy, all you need is a little bit (20 minutes or so) of time and something to jot down some notes! For the first 5 minutes, sit down and think about what you need to work on. Most people think about their weight loss first and that is okay. But don’t stop there. If you are overweight, what makes you overweight? Overeating, unhealthy eating, insufficient workout time? Whatever it is that you want to work on to make a healthier you, think about it. Once you have a few things listed in your head, start to jot them down.

it is time to write out your intentions. Use the thoughts you wrote down as a guide for your intentions. These have to be something you really, truly feel like doing. Don’t just write down some random goals on how you want to lose weight, and eat healthier to achieve this. Be as utterly specific as possible. For example, “I intend to lose 13 pounds by the end of the month after next. To do this, I am going to cut down my sugar intake, by using half the amount in my coffee, and completely cutting out sodas. In addition, I intend to take my dogs on a walk twice a day instead of once, and walk them further than normal to keep my heart rate up.” It can be as simple as this, or you could go on for as long as you’d like. As long as you intend to keep track of everything and really make the effort.

This is one of the best ways to really put your mind to your health and get out of some nasty habits. Plus, by writing everything out as your intentions, you are telling your brain that these are something that you really do want, and that you need to focus on them. The next step is to dig down, really deep and put your intentions to work! Do what you said you were going to do. Make a difference in your life by making great changes to your health. You will be happier because you will feel better. Trust me and give this a try. Tons of people out there are doing this very thing right now and you can too.
