Everything We Love About Summer

Happy First Day Of Summer!!!

Summer is finally here and that means warm, warm, warm weather… oh yeah and no school for the kiddos!  Feeding the family that now has endless amounts of free time on their hands while you still go into work can get a little overwhelming. I’ve got some tips on how to keep your family happy & healthy this Summer.

Meal Prep

I’m just imagining all the beautiful and tasty summer fruits that are available at our local grocery store. Yummmmm! While the kids may have a lot of free time, this doesn’t mean we do, so preparing snacks and meals ahead of time can be a fun family project. Don’t go stock up on prepackaged and over-processed food to hold the kids over!! Snacking can be healthy and tasty with your local Summer fruits.

Berries – have a great source of fiber, antioxidants which help keep your memory on point, and anti-cancer properties. These are wonderful snacks that take little to no prepping; throw a few in a snack size bag and you are all set!

Peaches – This low calorie fruit is delicious and packed with vitamins our body needs to live a healthy life!! Full of potassium, magnesium, iron, and zinc you can eat this fruit by itself or top off your delicious bowl of plain Greek yogurt with it.

Watermelon – Okay we all know that this fruit is over 90% water so that alone is a huge plus to snacking on this tasty treat. If you are concerned about weight loss then this is the snack for you! Packed full of vitamins A, B6, and C your skin and eyes can’t thank you enough. The Antioxidants in this Summer fruit will help your body to reach it’s full potential. You can eat this fruit alone or try topping it with some red onion, jalapeno, cilantro, and lime for an amazing Summer salsa.

Nectarines – Loaded with Vitamin C and more that help your over all digestive health, increased cardiovascular, and better cellular functioning …. Yeah, you can’t go wrong with this fruit!

Melons – Most melons have a high water content leading to great snacks for weight loss. The majority of them are packed with antioxidants, vitamin c, and copper. Consuming these on a regular basis will help boost your collagen production thus leading to better skin.

Plums or Prunes… just depends on which way you’d prefer them. If you have an iron deficiency these are a great snacking fruit for you!! They help to increase the iron absorbency in your body. This is in addition to all the vitamins and minerals they have. The large amounts of Vitamin C in these fruits are great for your skin so ladies if you want clear skin with a beautiful glow then start adding plums to your diet.

Oh boy the list could go on and on with all the benefits each of these fruits carry, but I’ll save that for another post! Make sure to switch out those nasty overpriced & over-processed bag of chips for some healthy fruit. Your body will thank you!!

Premature Aging… No Thanks!!

SPF is a major must have this season!! We all should be applying SPF daily throughout the year, but Summer is definitely the most important time to NOT forget our sunscreen. Sunscreen protects us from the excessive UV rays that can do damage to our skin. Skin cancer, sunburns, sun spots, wrinkles, and so much more can occur from not protecting yourself properly. So don’t leave your house without applying your fave SPF!!
