This is a quick post/reminder to wear extra sunscreen this week. It is going to be a hot one! If you don’t already wear sunscreen on a daily basis (especially if you’re in the sun), regardless of your skin tone, you should really switch that around. Too much direct sunlight can really be damaging to our skin. You may be asking; how do we know when it is too much sun? Well, it is actually too much sun, well before you are sun burnt, so most of the time it is hard to tell. That is why you should always be wearing some sunscreen, just in case!
Another question I get asked a lot is, “What SPF should I use?” This one is actually pretty simple. I know there have been rumors out there saying how any high SPF is bogus, but in actuality it isn’t. Although no sunscreen SPF gives 100% protection from UVB rays, the higher the SPF, the more protection there is. Below is a breakdown of the protection each commonly found SPF sunscreen provides. Be sure to go out and get some sunscreen and start wearing it! It’s good for you and you know it! 😊
Simple SPF Protection Chart
15 SPF —– 94% UVB
30 SPF —– 97% UVB
45 SPF —– 98% UVB
50+ —– Over 98%, but this varies between brands.
As you can see, they are all very similar in protection, but your face should have top priority, so go with 50+, and if you hate the idea of 50 SPF on your body, then try 45 or 30. There really is no reason to go any lower. You will still tan, your skin is still in the sun. This way, you’ll at least be protecting yourself from burns, precancerous growth, and many more faults that come with too much sun.
